BWK Editorial Services
Technical/academic editing and coaching services specializing in non-native English speakers who seek to elevate their writing and presentations.
Why an independent editor and writing/presentation coach is better for you
You are a person not a sale: Larger editing/coaching companies have to be focused on getting the sale, thus often have disproportionately larger sales teams than editors and trainers. As an independent editor and coach, you are not just a sale. You are a person or organization who needs help in your writing and/or presentation skills.
Higher quality material: Because you are considered only as a sale, services are more often than not thrown together with little concern of the quality. It just has to “look” good. Their services are usually bloated with extra hours to obtain the most money out of you. Longer does not mean quality. As an independent and experienced editor and coach, I will make sure your session will be of the highest quality and the best use of your important time and finances. I know what will work in your situation and what may not work.
I am the expert: Sales teams very rarely have experience in the actual editing/coaching service they are selling. This inevitably causes confusion and frustration for both you and the company editors and trainers. Introducing confusion and frustration is obviously not good for business. You will simply communicate with me, the actual editor/writer and coach with over 18 years experience. The person actually providing you with the service is always the best person to first advise you on how they can help you.
I am the editor/trainer, sales team, and CEO, thus I have the unique ability focus entirely on you. I have learned through years as a company editor and trainer under frustrating conditions and being forced to use sub-par materials that I am ideally suited to providing you the best service because I will be involved through every step of providing you the highest-quality service for your editing, writing, and presentation needs.
SERVICES
BWK Editorial Services offers specialized editing for non-native English-speaking researchers and academics wanting to refine their manuscripts to meet the highest academic standards. I focus on the 4 C's, i.e., clarity, conciseness, cohesion (logical flow), and consistency. This involves clarifying complex ideas and jargon so your message reads smoothly; tightening phrasing to eliminate redundancy and improve readability; ensuring logical flow across sections and transitions; and standardizing terminology, formatting, and style to align with journal expectations. I preserve your voice and scientific accuracy while improving grammar, punctuation, and adherence to publication guidelines. Fast turnaround, confidential handling, and tailored feedback help you submit stronger, more persuasive manuscripts with confidence.
Regarding AI: AI helps us write faster, but sometimes the result sounds stilted, flat, or just a little off. If you use AI to aid in your writing, I can ‘humanize’ your AI-generated text so it reads naturally, with authentic voice, clear flow, and the subtle human touches that resonate with readers.
There are several rate tiers starting at ¥1,200/page (~200 words) - or equivalent in your currency - for students. Researcher and corporate rates are also available. Feel free to contact me for more details below.
BWK Editorial Services offers tailored coaching for non-native English-speaking researchers and students online or on-site (Tokyo area only).
Presentation coaching aims to strengthen your presentation presence and polish slide design so you will be able to communicate with confidence, clarity, and impact. We will cover voice, pacing, body language, audience engagement, plus slide layout, visuals, and wording for maximum readability and persuasion.
Academic writing coaching will provide focused guidance on structuring manuscripts using the IMRaD framework and its variants. I’ll help you craft clear introductions and research questions, present methods with reproducible detail, organize results for logical flow, and write discussions that contextualize findings and address limitations. Sessions include practical best practices, e.g., concise scientific language, coherent paragraph structure, strong transitions, appropriate use of tables/figures, and effective abstracts, as well as common pitfalls to avoid such as overstated conclusions, unclear hypotheses, and inconsistent tense or terminology.
Coaching is personalized to your field, stage of work, and deadlines. Practical exercises, model examples, and revision checklists ensure improvements you can apply immediately to presentations and manuscripts.
